Rowdy Session In House Of Reps Over Motion On Budget Implementation

The House of Representatives was thrown into a rowdy session on Wednesday as lawmakers debated a motion on the poor implementation of the budget and delays in the release of funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The motion, sponsored by a lawmaker representing Abia State, Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, sought to address concerns over the pace of budget execution and the impact of funding delays on government operations.

A key prayer of the motion called for President Bola Tinubu to appear before the House to discuss the issues surrounding budget implementation and fund disbursement.

The proposal, however, sparked sharp divisions among lawmakers, with members opposed to the motion repeatedly chanting “sit down” at colleagues speaking in support of it.

The heated exchanges disrupted proceedings and led to a prolonged debate that lasted for about 30 minutes.

At the end of the deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, overruled the motion.

Abbas explained that the prayers contained in the motion as read on the floor differed from those contained in the document originally submitted by the sponsor, describing it as a deviation from the approved text.
