Security agencies step up surveillance after suspected Lakurawa attack in Kebbi

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Security agencies have intensified surveillance in Kebbi State following an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a construction site along the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway in Maiyama Local Government Area.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Gubba Village in Andarai District, claimed the lives of two security personnel and a foreign national, while two civilians sustained gunshot injuries.

DAILY POST gathered that the attack prompted increased security measures amid concerns about the safety of workers and security personnel at the road project site.

The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the suspected attackers came from the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto State.

Usman also disclosed that police teams repelled another attack allegedly carried out by the same group along the Birnin Malam axis on the same day.

He said joint security forces responded to the incidents, while military personnel engaged the attackers and reportedly neutralised scores of them.

Construction work at the affected site remained suspended following the attack as security agencies intensified surveillance and deployed additional personnel to prevent further attacks.

The police assured workers on the project of continued security protection and urged them to remain calm while efforts continued to safeguard lives and property.
