For some people, success is measured by personal achievements. For others, it is defined by the number of lives they help transform.
For two decades, Seth Santiago Roberts has dedicated his career to creating opportunities, amplifying talent and building platforms that showcase Africa’s rich cultural heritage to the world.
As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Qhue Concepts, Roberts has emerged as one of the continent’s leading figures in pageantry, tourism promotion and fashion development.
Today, his organisation stands behind some of Africa’s most recognised cultural and tourism platforms, including Miss Tourism Africa International, Mister Tourism Africa International, Miss Tourism Nigeria, Mister Universe Nigeria and Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria. Yet, beyond the crowns, titles and international acclaim lies a deeper mission—one rooted in visibility, empowerment and purpose.
Long before he became a respected industry leader, Roberts was captivated by the transformative power of opportunity.
His fascination was never merely about events or entertainment. Instead, he was drawn to the impact that visibility could have on an individual’s future.
“I have always been interested in what happens when people are given a chance,” Roberts reflects. “Sometimes all a person needs is a platform. Not money. Not connections. Just an opportunity to be seen.”
That simple philosophy would eventually become the cornerstone of his life’s work.
As he marks 20 years in the industry, Roberts’ journey tells a compelling story of resilience, innovation and an enduring belief in the immense potential of African talent.
While many industry stakeholders focus on the glamour associated with pageantry and fashion, Roberts has consistently looked beyond the spotlight.
For him, the real value of a platform is not measured by the grandeur of the finale but by the opportunities it creates long after the curtains close.
Questions such as What happens to the winners? What opportunities are created? What legacy remains? It has guided much of his decision-making throughout his career.
“I never wanted to create platforms that ended on crowning night,” he says. “I’ve always believed that the real work starts after the crown.”
This philosophy has distinguished his brands within an industry often driven by short-term attention. Through his various initiatives, Roberts has helped nurture and promote numerous young Africans who have gone on to excel as entrepreneurs, tourism ambassadors, media personalities, models, professionals and community leaders.
For him, success is ultimately measured not by audience size or online engagement but by the number of lives positively impacted.
Roberts has also been at the forefront of redefining the role of pageantry in Africa.
Long before tourism-focused pageants became widely embraced, he recognised the potential of cultural platforms as tools for destination marketing, youth empowerment and international engagement.
At a time when many viewed pageantry solely as entertainment, Roberts envisioned a broader purpose—one that connected tourism, culture and economic development.
That vision led to the creation of Miss Tourism Africa International and, subsequently, Mister Tourism Africa International.
What began as an ambitious concept has evolved into one of the continent’s leading tourism and cultural platforms, bringing together participants and stakeholders from across Africa and the diaspora.
Yet Roberts believes the possibilities remain far greater than what has already been achieved.
Africa has some of the world’s richest cultures. We have extraordinary talent and incredible tourism destinations,” he says. “The challenge has never been a lack of assets. The challenge has often been creating the right platforms to tell our story.”
Despite his numerous accomplishments, Roberts remains candid about the realities of building a lasting legacy.
The past 20 years have brought moments of triumph and disappointment, growth and setbacks, certainty and doubt. There have been projects that failed, partnerships that did not materialise and periods when the path forward appeared uncertain.
Rather than discouraging him, those experiences strengthened his resolve and broadened his understanding of leadership.
“People often celebrate the visible success,” he says. “What they don’t always see are the sacrifices, mistakes, difficult decisions and years of persistence behind it.”
These experiences have also fuelled his passion for mentorship. Roberts believes that young people entering the creative and cultural industries require more than motivation—they need guidance, discipline and a realistic understanding of the journey ahead.
“Talent is important, but talent alone is rarely enough,” he notes. “Discipline matters. Character matters. Consistency matters.”
Perhaps what sets Roberts apart most is his focus on institution-building rather than personal acclaim.
Those who know him describe a leader who consistently redirects conversations away from himself and toward the people and opportunities his platforms create.
Whether through tourism, fashion, pageantry or talent development, his mission has remained remarkably consistent: to create pathways that open doors for others.
That vision continues to shape Qhue Concepts’ future. With the organisation’s recent acquisition of major international franchises, including Miss Cosmo International and Mister Cosmo International, Roberts is expanding his influence while deepening his commitment to talent development across the continent.
Yet even as his platforms grow in scale and international relevance, his guiding principle remains unchanged.
“A title can open a door,” he says. “But what truly matters is what you do once you’re inside the room.”
Twenty years after embarking on his journey, Seth Santiago Roberts remains focused not on past accomplishments but on future possibilities.
His attention is fixed on the next generation of talent waiting to be discovered, the next tourism destination waiting to be promoted, and the next platform capable of transforming lives.
In an era where headlines and social media numbers often measure influence, Roberts represents something more enduring—a builder of people, opportunities and institutions.
His story is not merely one of personal success. It is the story of a visionary who has spent two decades creating platforms that allow others to shine, and whose most significant contributions to Africa’s cultural and tourism landscape may still be ahead.
