Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The summit, holding on Saturday at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown, is expected to bring together heads of state and government, ministers, senior government officials and regional institutions to deliberate on issues affecting the West African sub-region.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, on Sunday, Senator Shettima will join political and business leaders from across West Africa and beyond at the high-level meeting.
The summit is expected to consider key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening regional cooperation while reaffirming the commitment of member states to peace, democracy, economic growth and regional integration.
The meeting forms part of ECOWAS’s statutory mid-year engagements, which provide a platform for member states to review progress on regional priorities, including security, democratic governance, trade, infrastructure, economic integration and sustainable development.
The gathering comes as West African leaders continue to grapple with security challenges, political transitions and efforts to deepen economic cooperation across the region.
The Presidency said the Vice President will return to Abuja at the conclusion of the summit.
