Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists on their duty position in Abaji, neutralising one of the attackers who attempted to seize a soldier’s weapon.
This is contained in a post on X by security expert, Zagazola Makama.
According to him, the incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on July 29, when suspected terrorists launched an attack on troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke, deployed at Abaji.
Zagazola said that during the assault, one of the attackers attempted to snatch the personal weapon of a soldier on sentry duty. The soldier and his colleagues responded swiftly, neutralising the assailant before he could escape with the weapon.
He stated that one soldier sustained injuries during the encounter and was immediately evacuated to the Primary Health Care Centre in Abaji for medical treatment.
“The troops maintained control of the position following the attack, while security measures in the area have been reinforced to prevent further incidents.
“The attempted weapon snatching underscores the desperate tactics increasingly employed by armed groups during attacks on security personnel, as troops continue operations to restore peace in the area,” Zagazola said.
