Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has summoned key stakeholders from Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra East Local Government Area for an emergency peace and security meeting following a renewed communal clash between the communities.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, said the meeting would hold on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Government House, Awka.

According to the statement, the meeting is aimed at addressing the root causes of the long-standing dispute and finding a lasting resolution to the conflict.

The renewed clash reportedly resulted in loss of lives and property, prompting the state government to shut the popular Otuocha Market until further notice.

Soludo expressed deep concern over the casualties and injuries recorded during the clash, stressing that violence, bloodshed and destruction of property had no place in Anambra State.

The governor, in the interim, directed both communities to immediately cease all hostilities, maintain peace and exercise restraint.

“All grievances, claims, and presentations must be channelled exclusively through their designated stakeholders at the upcoming Awka meeting,” the statement said.

The statement added that security agencies, including the police, had been fully deployed to the area to enforce law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent further escalation.

Soludo reassured residents of the state of his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property and resolving communal disputes through peaceful means.
