Somalia: Danab Commandos Launch Patrols Near Burhakaba

Horn Observer about 2 hours 2 mins read
The operation was conducted in the villages of Besiqow, Salan Marode, Habar Gare, and Awbariyow, where Danab commandos carried out security patrols and searches aimed at enhancing public safety and preventing Al-Shabaab fighters from operating in the area. Military officials said the mission was intended to reinforce security in rural communities that remain vulnerable to insurgent activity. Officers from the 165th Battalion said the operation forms part of the Somali National Army's continuing campaign to expand security, stabilize liberated areas, and protect civilians across Bay region. They added that the commandos will maintain pressure on Al-Shabaab through sustained field operations. "Our forces will continue conducting operations to secure local communities and deny Al-Shabaab the ability to threaten civilians," an officer from the 165th Battalion told Lamaane News Network. The officer also urged residents to cooperate with security forces by reporting suspicious activities that could undermine local stability. Residents in the targeted villages observed Danab commandos moving through populated areas and surrounding rural locations during the operation. Security personnel carried out routine inspections before continuing patrols across the designated areas, with local movement continuing under military supervision. The latest operation comes as Somali security forces intensify counterinsurgency efforts across southern Somalia, where Al-Shabaab continues to stage attacks despite sustained military pressure. Bay region remains strategically important because it links several population centers and transportation routes that are vital for government administration and civilian movement. Security analysts say regular security operations in rural districts help limit insurgent mobility, strengthen government presence, and improve conditions for humanitarian access and local governance. Such operations are regarded as an important component of Somalia's broader campaign to restore stability in areas affected by the insurgency. Military officials said similar operations will continue in coordination with other Somali National Army units operating across Bay region. They reiterated that cooperation between local communities and security forces remains essential to sustaining security gains and preventing the return of militant activity.
