Two sons of the South-East Zonal Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Haruna Sale, have reportedly been killed after gunmen attacked a cattle settlement in Oheoyya Community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The victims, Ahmadu and Umaru, were allegedly murdered during the attack, around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, while about 40 cattle belonging to association members were also slaughtered.
In a statement by MACBAN’s National Deputy Director-General, Gidado Siddiki, the association alleged that unidentified armed men stormed the settlement, killed the two brothers and attacked the cattle.
It described the incident as a tragic assault on law-abiding citizens engaged in legitimate livestock business.
MACBAN commended the state government and security agencies for recovering the victims’ bodies from a nearby forest, enabling their families to conduct Islamic burial rites, but also called for a thorough investigation and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
The Enugu State Police Command are yet to confirm the incident or announced any arrests, while efforts to reach the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful.
