Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has issued a stern warning to South Africa to immediately put a stop to the killing of Nigerian citizens in the country.
Fani-Kayode, while issuing the warning, said the patience of Nigeria over the xenophobic mob attacks on its citizens in South Africa was ‘wearing thin’.
The warning by the former Aviation Minister comes amid the killings of Nigerian bishop, Michael Taiwo Fakunle, and James Uchechukwu Nwankwo in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to reports, the Nigerian bishop was killed in his own home in Kensington, Johannesburg, on September 4.
In the same vein, Nwankwo was killed the following day during an incident involving officers of the South African Police Service.
The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa revealed that the cleric was shot several times after two suspects allegedly gained access to his home.
Responding, Fani-Kayode said he was “mortified and deeply shocked” by the bishop’s killing.
He stated that Fakunle had reportedly received threats before the attack.
“I am equally shocked to hear about the murder of Mr James Uchechukwu Nwankwo by officers of the South African Police Service again in Johannesburg on September 5,” he said.
