Super Eagles drop four places to 30th in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped four places to 30th in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released on Wednesday.

The three-time African champions, who were ranked 26th in the previous ranking, also dropped two places to sixth among African countries.

Nigeria’s latest position means Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire have moved ahead of the Super Eagles on the continent.

The drop follows a difficult international window for Eric Chelle’s side, which began with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau.

The Super Eagles rounded off the window with a nervy 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

Nigeria had entered the latest ranking as Africa’s fourth-highest ranked team, behind Morocco, Senegal and Egypt.

The latest FIFA ranking leaves Morocco as Africa’s highest-ranked nation, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria. The top 10 African ranking has Morocco first, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, DR Congo, Cameroon, Mali and Tunisia. Morocco are the highest-ranked African nation in seventh place.

Globally, Spain remain top of the FIFA ranking, ahead of Argentina, France, England and Portugal. Brazil, Morocco, Belgium, Netherlands and Mexico complete the top ten.
