Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Tanzania 2-1 in an international friendly on Thursday, rounding off their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco on a winning note.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade gave the 10-time African champions the lead in the first half, but Tanzania responded before the break to restore parity.

With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Esther Okoronkwo struck late in the game to hand Nigeria a deserved 2-1 victory in their final test before the continental championship.

The friendly provided Head Coach Justin Madugu with another opportunity to assess his squad, fine-tune tactics and build cohesion ahead of Nigeria’s opening match at the tournament.

The victory will boost the confidence of the Super Falcons as they pursue a record 11th WAFCON title.

Nigeria will now shift attention to the group stage of the delayed 2026 WAFCON, aiming to reclaim the continental crown after an encouraging end to their pre-tournament preparations.
