Taraba task force arrests two over alleged illegal mining

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Operatives of the Taraba State Illegal Mining Task Force, in collaboration with officials of the Ministry of Solid Minerals, have arrested two suspects during an operation at an illegal mining site in Bali Local Government Council of the state.

The suspects were apprehended at Gidan Boss, near Mayo Kam, during a site assessment conducted by the task force and ministry officials on October 2, 2026.

“The operation was part of ongoing efforts to identify and disrupt illegal mining activities in the state and safeguard Taraba’s mineral resources,” the task force said.

The two suspects were subsequently transported to Jalingo for further investigation.

The authorities said the operation was also aimed at ensuring compliance with relevant mining laws and regulations governing the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources.

Illegal mining has remained a concern for authorities because of its potential impact on the environment, public safety and the orderly management of the state’s mineral deposits.

The task force reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement operations against unauthorised mining activities across Taraba State.

The latest arrests come as authorities continue efforts to strengthen monitoring of mining sites and ensure that mining activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations.
