The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored electricity supply to Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states following the successful completion of scheduled maintenance at its 330kV Kumbotso Transmission Substation.
In a statement yesterday, the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the substation and the affected transmission lines were successfully energised, with normal power supply fully restored at about 4:30 p.m.
The maintenance, which had earlier been announced by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), required a temporary shutdown of power supply between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to enable engineers carry out critical works on the facility.
According to the TCN, the maintenance formed part of its continuous investment in reinforcing the transmission grid and enhancing the stability of electricity supply across the country.
Following the restoration of the transmission infrastructure, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) have resumed power off-take to their franchise areas, the company stated.
The restored supply covers customers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, as well as Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State and Gazaoua in the Republic of Niger, which also receives electricity through Nigeria’s transmission network.
TCN expressed appreciation to customers for their patience and understanding during the maintenance period, noting that the temporary inconvenience was necessary to improve the efficiency and reliability of the power system.
Earlier, NISO had informed consumers that the planned outage was essential to facilitate maintenance at the Kumbotso 330kV Substation, stressing that the upgrade represented a critical investment in strengthening the national grid.
According to the system operator, the work was expected to enhance the transmission capacity of the network, improve electricity supply to customers in the affected states and boost the overall resilience of Nigeria’s power system.
The successful completion of the exercise and the restoration of supply bring to an end the temporary disruption experienced by electricity consumers in the affected areas, while reinforcing ongoing efforts to improve the country’s transmission infrastructure.
