May’s journey from obscurity to stardom didn’t happen overnight. It was forged in pain, resilience, and a firm decision to reclaim her narrative.
Life before the spotlight
To many Nigerians, May was simply known as the wife of actor Yul Edochie. She built her life around family and business, far from social media noise and celebrity culture.
Those close to her describe her as hardworking, grounded, and intentional. The public barely knew her name.
That changed in April 2022, when Yul Edochie publicly acknowledged actress Judy Austin as his second wife. He cited the impact she had made on his life.
Overnight, May was thrust into national conversation.

Today, she is also an entrepreneur and style icon. She is the founder of Queen May Beauty Cosmetics and has made her acting debut. She describes herself as a woman of substance and a muse of her own journey.”
Giving back
On Wednesday, September 16, May will launch another project under her foundation, May’s Oasis Foundation. The initiative, “Project Feed and Empower Her”, will feed about 1,000 children on the streets and provide basic skills and empowerment for underprivileged women.
“No one should be hungry,” she said.
For May, the work is about legacy. “Life is much more than we can behold with our eyes.”
The bigger picture
May’s rise resonates because it feels familiar. Many women know what it’s like to build in the background, to be overlooked, and to have life happen publicly.
