Atletico Madrid have ruled out any possibility of Julián Alvarez joining Barcelona, with the club’s board unanimously backing the decision not to negotiate with the Catalan side.
The Madrid club said its Board of Directors had expressed “absolute support” for the decision following Barcelona’s reported interest in the Argentine forward.
In a statement, Atlético stressed that it remains willing to participate in normal transfer-market negotiations, provided they are conducted professionally, ethically and with respect between clubs.
However, the Spanish side said Barcelona had failed to meet those standards, making any discussions over Alvarez’s transfer impossible.
The club said, “Atletico de Madrid is open to standard transfer market negotiations when conducted in a professional, ethical and respectful manner. We fully stand behind the club’s previously communicated position that FC Barcelona failed to meet these requirements and, as a result, there will not be any negotiation and there is zero consideration of an Alvarez transfer to Barcelona.”
The statement reinforces Atletico’s earlier position that Alvarez is not available for a move to Barcelona.
The club also expressed confidence that the 26-year-old striker would accept its decision and remain committed to the team.
“Atletico de Madrid trust that our player will understand the decision and will remain focused on helping the club achieve its goals, just as he has done during the two seasons he has been defending our colors,” the club added.
Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024 and has spent the last two seasons with the Spanish club.
Barcelona’s reported interest in the forward has now been met with a firm response from Atletico, who have made clear that they have no intention of entering negotiations over his transfer.
