
Three girls from the same family have died after a boat they were travelling in capsized at Tiga Dam in Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to information from relatives of the victims.
The deceased were identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira, all from Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community.
The chairman of Tudunwada Local Government Area and the chairperson of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, confirmed the incident in a statement.
She expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the people of the community.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu over this painful incident.”
She also prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased and grant them eternal rest.
“May Allah forgive them, have mercy on them and grant their families the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” she prayed.
As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official statement from the Kano State Police Command or the Kano State Fire Service, which is responsible for emergency rescue operations in such incidents.
