‘Tinubu listening to poor advice on insecurity’ – Financial expert offers solution

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Financial advisor and educator Kalu Aja has criticised the handling of Nigeria’s security challenges, arguing that President Bola Tinubu is receiving poor advice on the country’s worsening insecurity.

In a post on X on Saturday, Aja faulted suggestions that insecurity is largely politically motivated, saying such a view could lead to inaction and allow the crisis to deepen.

He questioned the notion that insecurity would disappear after the 2027 elections if it is politically driven, asking whether countries such as the United States would be carrying out military operations if the problem were merely political.

Aja also warned against the payment of ransoms to criminal groups, arguing that such actions only encourage further kidnappings and attacks by creating incentives for criminal activity.

While acknowledging claims that some politicians may be involved in insecurity, the financial expert insisted that the government should focus on confronting insurgents and criminal elements directly.

He argued that tackling insecurity would not only improve public safety but also boost economic growth and earn public support for the government.

Aja called on the Federal Government to suspend spending on projects not directly related to health and human services and redirect resources towards security operations.

He further urged the government to deploy the armed forces, paramilitary agencies and anti-graft bodies into forests and other criminal hideouts as part of what he described as a massive three-month campaign to eliminate insurgent and bandit threats.

According to him, treating insecurity as a political issue and failing to act decisively would only allow the problem to spread further across the country.

Aja said: “The President is listening to poor advice. They are telling him that the insecurity is political, which is code for “ignore it; it will automatically disappear after 2027.”

“So, the US is bombing politicians?

“Paying ransom, whenever you do so, only increases insecurity; bad incentives also have their effects.

“Let’s assume they are correct and that politicians are actually involved in insecurity.

“Addressing insecurity will win votes and boost GDP, so go after the insurgents.

“Suspend all spending unrelated to health and human services, and mobilise the entire armed forces and paramilitary groups, including the EFCC, into the forests.

“Launch a massive three-month campaign to clear everything out.

“Ignoring this as mere politics will only allow the problem to spread. A stitch in time saves nine.”
