Former FIFA World Cup winner, Christophe Dugarry has slammed Barcelona target Julian Alvarez for his behaviour during the summer transfer window.
The Argentine forward publicly stated his intention to leave his current club, Atletico Madrid, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Atletico are resolute in their decision not to allow Alvarez’s transfer to their league rivals Barcelona this summer.
The atmosphere turned hostile when Atletico fans booed the striker and called for his departure due to his actions during their 2-2 draw against Villarreal in their opening LaLiga match of the season.
Football Pundit, Dugarry condemned the 26-year-old forward’s behaviour and criticised his representatives.
In an interview with RMC Sport as reported by Metro UK, he said, “The player and his representatives are idiots. How can one publicly state ‘I want to leave the club’? Is he lacking in intelligence?
“The most effective way to leave is not by doing that. Remain silent, be humble, and communicate wisely. Did you not observe what transpired with Griezmann? Are you unaware of your management? Are you oblivious to your supporters?”
He further stated that while a player wishing to leave should be permitted to do so, it is essential that they maintain respect.
He added, “A player who desires to leave should be granted that opportunity. However, this often leads to more complications than solutions.
“I also believe that mutual respect is necessary. The first step in attempting to negotiate an agreement is not to insult your fans or your club.”
Meanwhile, as Alvarez seeks to leave his club, Atletico are unwilling to allow him to join Barcelona; however, Arsenal may provide the forward with a potential escape route.
The Gunners are reportedly interested in securing a deal for the Argentine forward and would be prepared to make an offer if the player indicates his willingness.
