JALINGO — Operatives of the Taraba State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a commercial tricycle union pass distributor at Angwan Kassa junction, a suburb of Jalingo, the state capital.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, caused panic among residents and commuters in the area.
Vanguard gathered that the deceased was involved in an altercation with a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) operator after he allegedly intercepted the operator for failing to obtain the mandatory daily union ticket.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation, during which the pass distributor was stabbed. He later died from injuries sustained in the attack.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said two suspects had been arrested and were assisting with investigations.
“Two suspects have been taken into custody and are undergoing interrogation. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Mshelizah said.
Meanwhile, commercial tricycle operators plying the route from Area Command Junction through Angwan Kassa axis to Deeper Life Camp junction have withdrawn their services following the incident.
The development has left many commuters stranded, with some forced to trek long distances in search of alternative means of transportation.
