Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three kidnapped victims after foiling a kidnapping attempt along the Dandume-Damari axis in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The rescue followed a distress call concerning the abduction of civilians along the road on Friday, prompting troops to swiftly mobilise to the area.
The Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said in a statement that the soldiers made contact with the terrorists and engaged them, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes.
The fleeing terrorists abandoned their victims and a black Volkswagen Golf vehicle during the encounter.
“Troops pursued the fleeing terrorists and subsequently rescued three kidnapped victims, identified as Abubakar Abdulkadir, aged 25; Mansir Idris, aged 26; and Abubakar Aliyu, aged 21,” Danja said.
He said the victims were later escorted and released to continue their journey.
No casualty was recorded among the troops during the encounter.
Danja said the operation underscored efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to secure civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and deny criminals freedom of action across its area of operation.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
