Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated multi-directional assault by ISWAP terrorists in Kukawa, Borno, reportedly neutralising more than 25 terrorists.

The troops also recovered six AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition during the counter-offensive, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by Capt. Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East.

Goni said the terrorists attacked troops of 101 Special Forces Battalion from four directions but were met with stiff resistance.

He said the troops, supported by the Air Component, responded with superior firepower and coordinated tactical manoeuvres, forcing the terrorists to flee in disarray.

“Preliminary assessment indicates that over 25 terrorists were neutralised, with 14 bodies recovered so far,” he said.

He said further exploitation of the area was ongoing to recover additional weapons, track fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.

Goni said some soldiers were also killed during the encounter, describing them as gallant personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.

He said the Nigerian Army had extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups.

According to him, the successful repulsion of the assault demonstrated the combat readiness and resilience of troops in the North-East Theatre.

He added that the operation also underscored the effectiveness of air-ground coordination and joint operations in disrupting terrorist activities.

Goni said troops would continue aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and coordinated offensive actions with other security agencies to dismantle terrorist networks and protect communities. (NAN)
