Troops repel Lakurawa attack on Kebbi military base, recover weapons

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on Forward Operating Base, FOB, Maiyama in Kebbi State.

The development was disclosed by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post shared via his X handle.

According to the post, the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, when a large number of Lakurawa fighters riding more than 100 motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons attempted to overrun the military base.

The attackers were reportedly armed with General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades as they launched the assault on the troops.

The troops, however, held their positions and engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw into the surrounding terrain.

Several of the attackers were reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

A subsequent exploitation and pursuit operation led to the recovery of 17 motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The troops also recovered a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and Baofeng communication radios reportedly used by the attackers during the assault.

The area remains under the control of the troops, while aggressive patrols and dominance operations are ongoing to track the fleeing members of the group.
