Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued six female students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), and a commercial driver abducted in Katsina State.
The victims were rescued on Monday evening along the Daye–Malumfashi road in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state after troops responded to a distress call reporting an attack on a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina.
According to a statement on the operation, the troops arrived at the scene swiftly, forcing the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee.
The six students and the driver were rescued unhurt.
The rescued victims subsequently underwent preliminary security profiling and necessary medical evaluations before being handed over to designated officials for reunification with their families and the university authorities.
The military said the successful operation followed the prompt response of troops to the distress call.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA is conducting ongoing security operations across the region aimed at protecting communities and rescuing victims of kidnapping and other criminal activities”, the statement added.
