LAGOS — A yet-to-be-identified adult male passenger on a motorcycle was killed on Wednesday when a sand-laden tipper truck collided with the motorcycle at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said its Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa responded to the crash following a distress call received at about 3:18 p.m.
According to the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, preliminary investigation indicated that the accident occurred after the tipper driver allegedly lost control and rammed into the motorcycle from behind.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the tipper truck, with registration number 19F 992FG, was loaded with sand when it collided with the motorcycle.
He said the motorcycle passenger died in the crash.
The Permanent Secretary said LASEMA responders, working with the agency’s LRU paramedics, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, managed the scene.
He added that the remains of the deceased were recovered and handed over to family members at the scene.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the damaged tipper truck and motorcycle were subsequently removed from the carriageway and taken to Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation.
He said normal traffic flow had been restored after the operation.
The Permanent Secretary commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road crashes.
He reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response across the state.
