Two Dead Following Fatal Collision Along Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun

Two persons have died following a road traffic crash at Leme along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. 

The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the crash to a speed violation. The Public Relations Officer of the command, Afolabi Odunsin, confirmed this in a statement in Abeokuta that underscores the persistent danger of excessive speed on Nigerian roads.

“The crash occurred at about 5:45 p.m. and involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU. FRSC rescue operatives received the distress call at 5:50 p.m., arrived at the scene by 5:55 p.m., and responded within five minutes,” Odunsin said.

“A total of six adult males were involved in the crash. Unfortunately, two adult males lost their lives, while no injury was recorded among the other persons involved,” he said

Odunsin confirmed that the Federal Road Safety rescue personnel evacuated the victims and deposited the deceased at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, in the state capital.

They also recovered personal belongings, including an identity card and a mobile phone, and promptly cleared the obstruction to restore the free flow of traffic.

He quoted the Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, as commiserating with the families of the deceased and urging all motorists, especially drivers and motorcyclists, to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid dangerous driving behaviours.

It emphasised that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes.

The Sector Command has, however, reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and prompt rescue services.

“Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report road traffic crashes and emergencies to the FRSC through the National Emergency Toll-Free Number 122 or the nearest FRSC patrol team,” he reiterated
