Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, also known as the So-Safe Corps, on Monday nabbed two suspects over alleged burglary and theft of pumping machines at Ajambata, Sokoto Road, Atan-Ota area of the state.

The suspects, simply identified as Monday and Vovo, were arrested following a distress call from members of the community that some men had been caught with pumping machines allegedly stolen from a location they had burgled.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday and signed by the Corps Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, the suspects were identified as natives of Cotonou, Benin Republic, residing in Atan.

Adegbuyi stated that preliminary interrogation revealed that Monday had been residing in Atan for several years, while Vovo arrived in the area a few months ago.

He said, “Upon receiving the information, So-Safe Corps operatives on patrol within the community immediately moved to the scene and apprehended the suspects. They were subsequently brought to the Atan Area Command of the Corps.

“During preliminary interrogation, Monday, one of the suspects, who are both natives of Cotonou, Benin Republic, disclosed that he had been residing in Atan for several years, while Vovo stated that he arrived in the area a few months ago.”

According to the PRO, Monday said he did not personally accompany Vovo to remove the pumping machines but admitted that he usually assisted in finding buyers for stolen items, which Vovo confirmed to be true.

“Two pumping machines were recovered from the suspects and brought to the Area Command. Subsequently, three individuals came forward to identify and claim the recovered items,” the statement added.

The suspects were said to have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Atan Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reacting, the State Commander of the Corps, Soji Ganzallo, reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to always be vigilant and ready to provide useful information that would help the Corps carry out its lawful duties.
