Ogun: Man arrested for breaking into house to steal while owner was away in church

Daily Post about 2 hours 3 mins read

A 21-year-old man, identified as Ayomide Adebayo, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, codenamed So-Safe Corps, over the alleged burglary and stealing of household items from a residence at Asore, Atan-Ota, Ogun State.

DAILY POST learnt that the suspect had allegedly jumped over the fence and gained unlawful access while the owner of the house was away in church on Sunday.

Among the items stolen were rice, bread, cooking pots and an undisclosed amount of money.

The development was disclosed in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday by the State Commander, Soji Ganzallo, signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi.

The statement reads, “A distress call was received by the Atan Area Commander, ACC Adekunle Job, at about 1:30 pm, informing him that a male suspect, identified as Ayomide Adebayo allegedly jumped over a fence and gained unlawful access to a house.

“Instantly, the Area Commander mobilised officers to the scene, following which the suspect, who has been beaten before arrival of operatives, was brought to the Command for further investigation.

“In the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to gaining access to the premises through the rear fence. He further disclosed that he removed the window burglary protection in order to gain entry into the main building.

“According to his confession, after gaining access to the house, he allegedly removed some household items, including rice, bread and cooking pots, as well as an undisclosed amount of money.”

The statement added that the owner of the house, upon returning from church, discovered that the gate was locked from inside, which aroused his suspicion as he had locked the gate from outside before leaving for church.

He gained access to the premises and discovered the suspect inside the house, raised an alarm, which attracted attention, led to the suspect’s apprehension and subsequent handover to the So-Safe Corps.

“Consequently, the suspect was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Atan Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and appropriate action,” the statement added.

The commander, while reiterating the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urged members of the public to be observant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities within their communities.

Ganzallo also advised the general public to desist from taking laws into their hands.
