U-17 WWCQ: Azonsou eyes comeback after Benin’s narrow loss to Flamingos

Daily Post about 3 hours 1 mins read

Benin U-17 women’s head coach, Idah Azonsou, praised her players’ performance despite the 3-2 defeat to Nigeria’s Flamingos.

Azonsou insisted that everything is still to play for ahead of the return leg scheduled for Stade de Kégué in Lomé on Saturday, 11 July.

The gaffer further said her players made too many mistakes which led to their defeat in the first leg.

“I want to congratulate my players. I am satisfied with their performance. They played well against an experienced team. However, we made a few mistakes that cost us goals,” Azonsou said after the game.

” Those are areas we will work on and correct. The first leg is over, but qualification is still open. There are still 90 minutes to play.”

The aggregate winner will qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Benin’s Amazons are aiming to qualify for the competition for the first time.
