UCL: Vinicius Jr breaks Lionel Messi’s record

Daily Post 25 days 2 mins read

Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr has eclipsed Lionel Messi’s record for the most assists in the Champions League knockout stages.

This achievement for the Brazilian came despite Los Blancos’ 6-4 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, which resulted in their elimination from the tournament.

In the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich, Vinicius Jr provided an assist to Kylian Mbappe, contributing to their third goal of the evening.

Nevertheless, they were defeated 4-3 in that match and exited the competition on aggregate. Following Vinicius’ assist, the Brazilian surpassed the iconic Lionel Messi in this individual accomplishment.

According to HITC, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr has now outperformed Lionel Messi in terms of the most assists recorded in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages.

The Brazilian currently has 13 assists in 41 UCL knockout matches, while Messi has 12 assists in 77 knockout appearances.

At the same time, Vinicius still trails behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has achieved 15 assists in 85 UCL knockout games.

The Real Madrid star has many years ahead of him and could potentially break the record of his idol if he maintains his current form.

Vinicius Jr has secured two Champions League titles with Real Madrid, whereas Lionel Messi has four titles to his credit.

Cristiano Ronaldo has five titles, four of which were won during his tenure with Los Blancos and one with Manchester United.
