The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence on Wednesday confirmed the death of a member of the Armed Forces who died in Ukraine.
The Defence Ministry, in a statement, said 40-year-old Major Paul Wilks died in a tragic road traffic incident, away from the front lines.
The late service member was commissioned from Sandhurst in April 2012 and joined the Intelligence Corps, where he remained throughout his career.
Wilks deployed to several operational tours, including Afghanistan, and was recognised with two Service Medals. He received the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in May 2026.
The military described the deceased as “an exceptionally bright and professional officer” and “a gifted leader” who earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reaffirmed his focus on supporting diplomatic efforts to secure further air defence for Ukraine.
Burnham reflected on his August visit to Kyiv during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus.
The leaders discussed how the UK could further support innovation within NATO to ensure the alliance had the forces of the future across all domains.
PM Burnham added that the new national space strategy, released last week, would further enhance the UK’s innovation and resilience in space.
