The First Niger Bridge, which links Anambra and Delta states, is set to be decorated with pictures of President Bola Tinubu once its ongoing rehabilitation is completed.
Minister of Works David Umahi announced this on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the bridge, where he also directed that all illegal advertisements currently mounted on the structure be removed.
Umahi said the bridge should no longer be used for unauthorised advertising, adding that anyone interested in placing advertisements would have to obtain approval from the Ministry of Works.
He explained that the advertising spaces would instead be used to display pictures of President Tinubu in recognition of what he described as the President’s efforts and infrastructure projects across the South-East.
“Once we are done with work on this bridge, I want all the illegal adverts on this bridge removed. Anyone who wants to advertise should apply to the Ministry of Works. For now, the bridge will be decorated with the pictures of President Tinubu.
“The President has worked so hard and we need to reward his hard work by decorating this bridge with his pictures,” Umahi said.
The minister also called on voters in the South-East to consider the infrastructure projects being carried out by the Tinubu administration as they prepare for the 2027 presidential election.
He urged residents of the region not to overlook the Federal Government’s projects when making their electoral decisions, saying the administration’s work in the region should be taken into account.
The First Niger Bridge had previously been shut following reports that vandals removed some structural components, including bolts, nuts and parts of its expansion joint.
Umahi reiterated that advertisements on the bridge would henceforth require formal approval from the Ministry of Works.
