KAMPALA — From thousands of kilometers away in California, a Ugandan healthcare professional has added her voice to the expanding political drive around Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, publicly endorsing his potential bid for Uganda’s presidency in 2031.

Ms. Ann Kirabo, a diaspora mobilizer for the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), declared her support following a meeting with PLU Secretary General Fadhil Twalla on Tuesday, 29th September 2026, at the organization’s headquarters in Kampala.

Kirabo stated that her decision followed an evaluation of Gen. Kainerugaba’s public service record, leadership vision, and anti-corruption stance.

“I urge all nurses in California to align with Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the next President of Uganda,” Kirabo said, characterizing her endorsement as part of a broader generational discussion regarding the country’s governance. “I have consistently strived to give my best in my profession, but I have rarely seen someone as dedicated to serving Uganda as Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. I encourage Ugandans to move past skeptics and support his vision.”

Her endorsement was welcomed by Mr. Mohammed Ssebuufu, a PLU mobilizer for the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, who noted that the declaration highlights the growing involvement of the diaspora in domestic political discourse. Ssebuufu added that field teams are actively engaging grassroots communities across Kampala to foster dialogue on the country’s political future.

Background: From Military Command to Political Profile

Gen. Kainerugaba, a senior military officer and son of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, was appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) in March 2024, succeeding Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi. A graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, his career has spanned key command roles within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and international security engagements, including South Africa’s National Defence College.

His political visibility grew through the MK Movement, which later restructured into the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). Positioning patriotism and anti-corruption at the core of its platform, PLU has established nationwide structures linking political figures, community organizers, and diaspora networks. In September 2026, the movement initiated a signature mobilization drive across various districts aimed at securing millions of endorsements for a potential 2031 presidential campaign.

A Campaign Under Public Scrutiny

Gen. Kainerugaba’s expanding political profile continues to prompt national debate. While supporters view his leadership activities as a natural extension of his public service, critics frequently raise questions regarding the intersection of military duty and political mobilization.

For Kirabo and PLU organizers, however, the momentum remains clear. By extending its reach from local Kampala structures to healthcare professionals abroad, PLU continues to solidify its footprint ahead of the 2031 election cycle.
