The United States is preparing to deploy another aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East as the conflict with Iran continues, according to a report by the US Naval Institute, USNI.
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, USS Theodore Roosevelt is expected to depart San Diego, California, in the coming weeks for a deployment lasting more than seven months, USNI reported.
The carrier strike group is expected to replace the USS George Washington, which recently arrived in the Middle East after deploying from Japan.
The George Washington had earlier taken over from the USS Abraham Lincoln, which had been operating in the region amid the prolonged conflict.
The Abraham Lincoln, which has been at sea since November 2025, is reportedly scheduled to make a port visit to Thailand next week, where its approximately 5,000 sailors are expected to have a brief break from operations.
The deployment comes as Washington maintains a sustained naval presence in waters around the Arabian Peninsula.
US aircraft carriers have played a central role in strike operations against Iran since the United States and Israel launched military action in late February.
The US naval presence has subsequently expanded to support the enforcement of a blockade targeting Iranian ports, placing American carrier groups at the centre of Washington’s broader military posture in the conflict.
