UWA Turns to Influencers to Encourage More Ugandans to Visit National Parks

Watchdog Uganda about 3 hours 2 mins read

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has launched a new influencer campaign designed to encourage more Ugandans to discover the country’s national parks and appreciate the importance of wildlife conservation.

The campaign, dubbed Open Park Days Influencer Campaign, was officially flagged off yesterday with the first group of content creators heading to Murchison Falls National Park. Through photos, videos and personal experiences shared online, the influencers are expected to showcase Uganda’s rich wildlife, stunning landscapes and unforgettable adventures to audiences across the country.

The initiative is part of preparations for Open Park Days, scheduled for 25–27 September, when Ugandans will have the opportunity to visit some of the country’s most celebrated protected areas and experience nature up close.

Speaking at the launch, UWA Acting Executive Director Charles Tumwesigye urged the influencers to tell authentic stories about Uganda’s parks by working closely with UWA staff to ensure the information they share is accurate.

He said the campaign reflects UWA’s commitment to opening up the country’s natural heritage to more Ugandans while inspiring a stronger culture of domestic tourism and conservation.

During the Open Park Days, visitors will be able to explore Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo and Kidepo Valley National Parks, as well as Ajai, Pian Upe, Katonga and Toro Semuliki Wildlife Reserves.

Uganda Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa called on the influencers to become proud ambassadors for the country, saying every Ugandan has a role to play in promoting the nation’s tourism potential. She also announced that the Uganda Tourism Board had provided vehicles to support the campaign activities across the country.

UWA Acting Commissioner for Tourism and Business Development Dorcus Rukundo encouraged young people to embrace domestic tourism, spend more time in nature and inspire others to explore Uganda’s diverse attractions.

Over the coming weeks, the influencers will take part in guided game drives, conservation activities and wildlife experiences, creating digital content that highlights the beauty of Uganda’s protected areas while encouraging more citizens to visit, appreciate and help conserve them.
