WAFCON 2026: Ihezuo states Super Falcons’ objective in Morocco

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

Chiwendu Ihezuo has outlined the Super Falcons mission at the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, DAILY POST reports.

Justine Madugu’s side will be targeting a record-extending 11th title at the competition which will be hosted by Morocco for the third consecutive edition.

The four semi-finalists at the competition are also guaranteed a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Ihezuo said the Super Falcons will fight to retain the title, and also earn a berth at the World Cup to be hosted by Brazil.

“This tournament will be tougher, much tougher. Last year, there was no FIFA Women’s World Cup ticket to fight for,” Ihezuo told thenff.com.

“When the first blast of the whistle goes on 26th July, the focus of all the teams will be on the World Cup ticket. As defending champions, we cannot afford to be over-confident.”

The Super Falcons will take on the Black Queens of Ghana in a friendly encounter in Casablanca on Saturday.

The WAFCON 2026 finals will kick-off in Morocco on Sunday, 26 August.

Nigeria’s opening fixture against the Scorchers of Malawi will hold at the Al Madina Stadium, Rabat on Tuesday, 28 August.
