Wamakko emerges APC Senatorial candidate for Sokoto North

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, has secured the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial ticket for Sokoto North ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wamakko emerged unopposed through an affirmation process conducted by APC members from the eight local government areas of the senatorial district.

The development paves the way for the former governor to seek a fourth term in the Senate.

Speaking after his affirmation on Monday, Wamakko thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and described the exercise as peaceful and successful.

He also commended APC members in Sokoto State for the orderly conduct of the primaries, saying the process reflected unity and internal cohesion within the party.

Wamakko urged political office seekers to view leadership as a platform for service rather than personal enrichment.

The APC national delegation leader, Hadi Ukhashatu, said the affirmation process was conducted in line with the party’s constitutional provisions allowing for elections, consensus, or affirmation of candidates.

He also praised party members in the state for the peaceful atmosphere during the exercise.

Meanwhile, the APC senatorial tickets for Sokoto South and Sokoto East were secured by Danbaba Dambuwa and Umar Ajiya respectively.

Dambuwa, who contested the 2023 senatorial election, is seeking a return to the Senate, while Ajiya will be making his first bid for the upper legislative chamber in 2027.
