The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan on Saturday buried 27 of the 30 people killed in the recent attack on Naridon village in Southern Kaduna. The other three victims had already been buried days earlier.
The attack occurred at about 11 pm last Sunday when suspected terrorists stormed Naridon, a farming community on the border between Kaduna State and Ganawuri in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attackers reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children, set several homes on fire and kidnapped a number of residents while they were asleep.
During the burial, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Julius Yakubu Kundi, said the coffins were deliberately arranged together as a reminder of the tragedy.
“I deliberately asked for the coffins to be lined up like this. So it will be evidence for us and all of Nigeria that we failed to protect them,” he said.
“They should not have died now,” he added.
The bishop also expressed sympathy for the families, especially the mothers mourning the loss of their loved ones, describing their pain as unbearable.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu directed security agencies to arrest those responsible for the killings.
He sympathised with the Kaduna State Government and the victims of the heinous crime.
