Wegagen Bank S.C. has reported a robust financial trajectory for the 2025/26 fiscal year, highlighting a pre-tax profit of 4.3 billion Birr and a 21 percent surge in total revenue to 16.4 billion Birr.
The figures were disclosed during the bank’s joint 33rd regular and 16th extraordinary general meetings of shareholders, convened at the Hilton Addis Ababa.

According to the annual report, Wegagen’s total assets climbed to 111.3 billion Birr, representing a 32 percent year-on-year increase from 84.3 billion Birr. Strong resource mobilization efforts similarly propelled total deposits up by 23 percent to reach 81.3 billion Birr, compared to 66.2 billion Birr in the preceding fiscal year.

Board Chairperson Abdishu Husein stated during the annual performance review that the bank also posted strong gains in external trade support, pulling in 366 million US dollars in foreign currency—a 34 percent expansion over the 2024/25 period. Credit expansion matched this pace, with total loans extended to various economic sectors rising by 26 percent to 67.3 billion Birr.
Wegagen’s paid-up capital escalated to 10.1 billion Birr by the close of June 2026, up from 7 billion Birr previously, pushing total capital reserves to 17.3 billion Birr across its 15,598 shareholders.

The institution continued to advance financial inclusion through its digital lending platform, “Efoita.” Designed primarily to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with a strong emphasis on women entrepreneurs, the initiative disbursed over 9 billion Birr in credit to 430,890 beneficiaries during the review period.

Wegagen’s customer base surpassed the 5 million mark, anchored by a rapidly expanding digital footprint. Active users include over 4 million mobile banking clients, 664,347 mobile wallet users, 537,651 cardholders, and 41,494 corporate and retail internet banking subscribers.

Aklilu Wube, the CEO of Bank emphasized that future positioning relies on institutional capacity building that transcends conventional financial metrics. The bank has rolled out a comprehensive five-year strategic plan centered on customer-centric design, robust risk management, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) integration to secure long-term competitiveness.
