The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, has reacted after migrants from Morocco and other parts of North Africa entered the Spanish city of Ceuta.
Sanchez, in a statement on his X account on Thursday, said his administration is fully committed to providing an immediate response to the situation.
He noted that the Spanish government is working with Moroccan and other international authorities to restore normalcy.
“The Government of Spain is fully committed to providing an immediate response to the situation in Ceuta.
“We are mobilizing all necessary resources, working with Moroccan and international authorities, and preparing the necessary measures to restore normalcy as soon as possible.
“This is the moment to build solutions, with responsibility and cooperation,” he wrote on X.
This comes amid a viral video showing migrants flooding the city of Ceuta after crossing the breakwaters and border fence separating Morocco from the Spanish territory.
According to Reuters, a spokesperson for Spain’s Guardia Civil said migrants overwhelmed police at the city’s breakwaters after swimming over from the Moroccan side.
The situation has sparked reactions on X, with some users commenting that “Spain has fallen.”
