Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has said late actor Alexx Ekubo should not have kept his marriage a secret, arguing that public figures should not hide important parts of their lives because of fear of public opinion or online criticism.
Edochie made the remark while reacting to the debate that followed Ekubo’s death, after skit maker Nasboi criticised bloggers for sharing photos and details of the late actor’s wife, insisting that Ekubo had deliberately kept his marriage away from public scrutiny.
Reacting to Nasboi’s comments, Edochie maintained that hiding personal matters from the public is unnecessary because criticism and gossip are inevitable, especially for celebrities.
“He shouldn’t have hidden anything from anyone. It wasn’t necessary.
“People must learn to stop worrying about what people say. No matter what you do in life people must talk.
“So leave them to talk. Leave blogs to blog. To be great in life you must never make yourself small for any one or any reason.
“Give them things to talk about while you ignore them and enjoy your life,” Edochie wrote on X.
His remarks came in response to a post by Nasboi, who lamented the attention now being given to Ekubo’s wife after years of public speculation about the actor’s personal life.
“Alexx Ekubo kept his marriage away from the vulture internet. Now that he’s gone, blogs are already digging up and posting his wife. But na some of una still talk say na gay. These blogs are vampires. The only crime is being a public figure,” Nasboi wrote.
For years, Ekubo’s private life attracted intense public interest, particularly after his highly publicised engagement to model Fancy Acholonu collapsed in 2021. The actor largely stayed away from discussions about his relationships thereafter, choosing instead to keep his personal affairs out of the spotlight.
However, following his death after a battle with Stage 4 kidney cancer, revelations about his marriage and family life have generated renewed interest online, with many fans expressing surprise that he had successfully kept that aspect of his life away from public attention.
