Why I don’t have plans to get married – Tyler Perry

Hollywood filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry has revealed that he has no plans to get married, saying the financial and emotional consequences of divorce have influenced his decision.

The 57-year-old entertainment mogul, who has never been married, made the disclosure during a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Perry said his decision was not because he does not believe in love, but because he wants to protect what he has built over the years.

According to Perry, he has watched people around him lose significant wealth following divorce, which has made him wary of marriage.

“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he said.

Perry also said that getting older has changed the way he views life, particularly his priorities.

He shares an 11-year-old son, Aman, with model and activist Gelila Bekele, and said he now wants to spend more time with his son and enjoy life.

“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in,” he said.

Perry had previously spoken about his personal life in 2020, when he described himself as a 51-year-old single man experiencing what he called a “midlife crisis.”

“This is what a midlife crisis looks like. I’m 51, single, and wondering what the next chapter in my life will look like. Whatever it looks like I’m going to walk with God, be the best father and man I can be,” he wrote at the time.

Despite building much of his entertainment career around stories of love, marriage and family, Perry says his own future will not include walking down the aisle. His focus, he indicated, is now on fatherhood, slowing down and enjoying the life he has built.
