Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has stirred debate after saying she does not believe women should get married in their 20s, arguing that many are still discovering themselves at that stage of life.
Makinwa shared her views during a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, which featured reality TV star Tacha as a guest.
According to the media personality, many women who marry in their 20s later regret making the decision so early, as they are still developing personally and learning to make important life choices.
“Women have no business getting married in their 20s… You don’t even know yourself yet. Those who did are regretting it now. Even those who are still married if they are being honest, they will tell you that they shouldn’t have rushed it,” she said.
Reacting during the conversation, Tacha shared a saying she attributed to her mother, describing marriage as an institution with differing perspectives from those inside and outside it.
“My mum says marriage is like an institution. Those inside want to get out, those outside can’t wait to get in.”
