World Cup 2026: Messi makes history after scoring against Jordan

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, made history after scoring a goal in his side’s World Cup final group game against Jordan earlier today.

Messi came off the bench to score as Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 in their final group game encounter.

The 39-year-old Inter Miami forward now has 6 goals at the World Cup tournament so far.

The former Barcelona captain scored three goals against Algeria, two goals against Austria and a goal against Jordan.

However, Messi’s goal against Jordan means he is now the first player in the history of the competition to score in seven consecutive FIFA World Cup appearances (last 4 in 2022, first 3 in 2026).

The win against Jordan ensured Argentina topped Group J with a maximum of 9 points from three games.

The reigning World Cup champions will face Cape Verde in the Round of 32 in the coming days.
