England coach, Thomas Tuchel, has said that defender, Jarell Quansah sustained a twisted ankle during the victory against Panama, expressing increasing concerns regarding the right-back position.

Quansah was included in the starting lineup for Saturday’s final group match after Reece James was sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

The Chelsea captain is also uncertain for England’s last 32 match scheduled for Wednesday.

England had already lost Tino Livramento to injury just a day before their campaign commenced, and James’ absence has posed a significant challenge at right-back.

Although Djed Spence is available, Tuchel chose Quansah to start against Panama, but his participation was cut short.

The Bayer Leverkusen player limped off the field after 64 minutes following a challenge from Jose Luis Rodriguez.

England ultimately secured a 2-0 victory, ensuring their position at the top of Group L.

In his post-match press conference, Tuchel acknowledged that his defender was ‘in pain’ and is doubtful for Wednesday’s last 32 match against either Senegal or DR Congo.

“Classic ankle twist,” Tuchel remarked when asked for an update on the former Liverpool defender. “He is in pain.

“He mentioned he has experienced this before, and it typically takes a matter of days. He has his leg elevated and iced.”

Quansah’s injury leaves Tuchel with fewer options at right-back. While Djed Spence is available, he has also been utilized as a backup at left-back.
