World Cup: Klopp hits out at Arsenal over Germany’s disallowed goal against Paraguay

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Former Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp has taken a dig at Arsenal football club following Germany’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Germany faced a controversial decision when a goal was disallowed prior to their unexpected exit at the hands of Paraguay.

Klopp pointed out that the disallowed goal resembled many of the goals scored by Arsenal in the 2025/2026 Premier League season that gave them the English top flight title.

In a remarkable upset during the Round of 32, Paraguay triumphed over Germany in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in Boston.

Julio Enciso gave the underdog team the lead just before halftime, while Kai Havertz equalized in the 54th minute.

The South American team defended resolutely, but Germany struggled and failed to generate numerous quality chances throughout the match.

Nevertheless, they did create a significant opportunity in extra time, converting it when Jonathan Tah scored with a header that appeared to be the potential winning goal.

However, following a VAR review, the referee disallowed the goal, determining that Waldemar Anton had fouled goalkeeper Orlando Gill.

While there was indeed contact between the players, it appeared that Gill went down rather easily in a congested penalty area.

This decision seemed harsh, and Klopp certainly shared this sentiment, noting that 60 percent of Arsenal’s goals are scored in a similar fashion.

Klopp told Magenta TV, “If the goal is illegal, then Arsenal won’t be English champions. They’ve scored 60 percent of their goals that way.

“We win the game when the ball goes in. So, of course, this is brutal.”
