Xenophobia: Another batch of stranded Nigerians arrives Lagos from South Africa

Another batch of stranded Nigerians willing to return from South Africa has arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard an Air Peace evacuation flight.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this on Thursday, saying the flight conveyed 284 passengers, comprising 272 adults and 12 infants, alongside two government officials, bringing the total number of returnees on the flight to 282.

DAILY POST reports that the latest arrival marks another phase of the Federal Government’s voluntary evacuation exercise for Nigerians returning from South Africa.

The returnees were received by officials of relevant government agencies upon arrival and have commenced documentation and other reception procedures, while support services are being provided to facilitate their reintegration.

The first batch arrived in Nigeria on June 9 with a total of 258 persons evacuated. The second batch had 66 willing Nigerians while the third batch had 269 people.

DAILY POST reports that scores of South African citizens on June 30 took to the streets, demanding that foreigners leave their country.
