A young Nigerian entrepreneur, Oluchukwu Hyginus, has been honoured with the King’s Trust Global Young Achiever Award at a prestigious ceremony held at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The award, sponsored by World Wide Technology, recognises an outstanding young person from a King’s Trust programme anywhere in the world. The event formed part of celebrations marking the charity’s 50th anniversary and its continued support for young people globally.

At the ceremony held on 11 May, Oluchukwu received the award in a star-studded gathering attended by notable personalities including Amal Clooney, Charlotte Tilbury, Jools Holland, Sir Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Rita Ora. During the event, he also met King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Oluchukwu was recognised for his impact in improving access to healthcare in Nigeria through his community pharmacy and an affordable health insurance initiative known as a “health shield” plan.

Through the Sustainable Enterprise Challenge programme, delivered in partnership with the British Council and Octoville Development Company, he developed the skills needed to grow his business. His work has not only provided essential healthcare services but has also created employment and introduced technology solutions to improve the management of medical supplies.

Speaking after receiving the award, Oluchukwu said the recognition reflects his commitment to making healthcare more accessible and affordable for underserved communities, adding that it encourages him to continue building impactful solutions.

A board member of World Wide Technology, Omar Mir, praised Oluchukwu’s innovation and leadership, noting that his work demonstrates how purposeful innovation can drive meaningful change in society.
