2026 World Cup: FIFA hands Madibo five-match ban

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

Qatar’s midfielder, Assim Madibo, has been given a five-game ban because of a challenge he made on Ismael Kone.

The tackle caused the Canadian player to break both the tibia and fibula bones in his left leg during the 2026 World Cup.

Madibo was shown a red card during Qatar’s 6-0 loss last Thursday.

Now, FIFA’s disciplinary committee has decided to ban him for five matches due to serious foul play, although he can appeal this decision.

Kone, who plays for the Italian team Sassuolo, had surgery right after the game in Vancouver.

Madibo has since visited the 24-year-old in the hospital.
