KADUNA — A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, has called for unity between the party’s legacy members and new entrants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mustapha, who is the ADC Legacy Chairman for 2022–2026 and Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Kaduna State, said unity and inclusiveness would be critical to the party’s ability to consolidate its structures and achieve its political objectives.
In a statement, the ADC chieftain described the party as a platform that had attracted Nigerians seeking what he described as credible leadership, good governance and political change.
He appealed to legacy members to embrace new entrants from the coalition, while urging the latter to respect and recognise the contributions of those who built and sustained the party before the recent influx of political actors.
According to him, there should be no distinction between the “old ADC” and the “new ADC”, stressing that all members should work towards a common objective.
“The strength of any political movement lies in its unity.
“To our legacy members: You built this house. You stayed when it was tough. You kept the faith. We honour and respect your sacrifice.
“To our new entrants from the coalition: You have brought energy, experience, structures and fresh ideas. You have chosen ADC because you believe in our vision. You are welcome home,” he said.
Mustapha identified inclusiveness, mutual respect, internal democracy, a shared policy agenda and discipline as key measures for strengthening unity within the party.
He said the party’s leadership and decision-making processes should accommodate members across the different groups, while internal processes, including the selection of candidates, should be guided by transparency, fairness and due process.
The ADC chieftain also urged members to focus their political activities on issues affecting the people, particularly security, employment, education and social welfare, rather than allowing personal differences to dominate the party’s agenda.
On the 2027 elections, Mustapha said a united party would be better positioned to mobilise support across wards, local government areas and political zones.
He urged legacy members to mentor new entrants and encouraged the latter to contribute their experience and organisational capacity to strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.
Mustapha appealed to members to subordinate personal ambitions to the broader interests of the party and the electorate.
“I call on all of us — legacy and coalition — to sheathe our swords, embrace one another and march forward as a unified force.
“The task is big, but together we are bigger. The journey is long, but together we will get there,” he said.
He expressed optimism that greater cohesion within the party would enhance its prospects ahead of the 2027 elections, urging members to work together in the interest of the ADC and the people of Kaduna State.
