2027: Hamzat right man for Lagos, says Ashafa

A former Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, has  urged  Lagos residents to support the aspiration of  the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat,for 2027.

Ashafa made the call  in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Lagos.

He said that Hamzat possessed the competence, experience and leadership qualities required to sustain the development strides of the state.

According to him, support  for Hamzat is support  for continuity, progress, stability and accelerated socio-economic development in the state.

“Dr Hamzat is a tested and trusted public servant with an outstanding record of performance.

“Lagosians can confidently entrust the future of the state to him because he has demonstrated capacity, integrity and commitment to public service,” Ashafa said.

He said that the APC governorship candidate as a widely accepted and marketable candidate whose achievements in public office had endeared him to many residents across the state.

“Hamzat is a sellable candidate with proven competence and experience.

“I urge all  residents to  support him because he represents the continuity of purposeful and people-oriented governance,” he said.

Ashafa called on party members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation  and community engagement ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The strength of the APC has always been its grassroots support.

“Every member should become an ambassador of the party by reaching out to families, neighbours and communities with our message of continuity and development,” he said.

He dismissed suggestions of disunity within the APC, insisting that members remained united and committed to ensuring the party’s victory at the polls.

“There is no division within our party. We are united, focused and determined to deliver victory for Dr Hamzat and President Bola Tinubu.

“The challenges experienced during the last general election, 2023 in Lagos state have strengthened our resolve to work harder,” he said.

Ashafa expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory by a comfortable margin in Lagos State and across the country in the 2027 general election.

“I am optimistic that Nigerians and Lagosians will once again renew their confidence in the APC because of its achievements and commitment to national development.

“We are confident of winning convincingly,” he said.

The former senator commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration remarkable achievements in infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare and economic development.

“Gov. Sanwo-Olu has laid a solid foundation through impactful projects and people-centred policies.

“Dr Hamzat understands the vision of this administration and has the capacity to consolidate on these achievements for the benefit of all Lagosians,” he said.

Ashafa also urged youths, women and first-time voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the electoral process.

He said that their votes would determine the future of Lagos State.

“Our democracy can only grow when citizens participate actively in elections.

“I encourage every eligible voter to register, collect their PVCs and vote responsibly for credible leaders who have the capacity to deliver good governance,” he said.

He reaffirmed his confidence in Hamzat’s leadership, expressing optimism that his administration would deepen inclusive governance, promote economic prosperity and further strengthen Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s leading commercial hub.

“I have no doubt that Dr Hamzat will justify the confidence reposed in him by Lagosians.

“His administration will build a more prosperous, secure and inclusive Lagos where every resident will have the opportunity to thrive,” Ashafa said.
